October 1, 2020
PUTNAM VALLEY, NY—With tremendous progress being made on the construction of the Pudding Street Overpass, Senator Sue Serino recently organized a tour of the worksite to provide community leaders and local residents with a status report on the long-awaited project.
On the tour, the NYS Department of Transportation reported that the project remains on schedule and is still set to be substantially completed by next summer.
“This project used to represent bureaucratic dysfunction at its worst, but for the first time in decades we are seeing tangible progress, and our community will be have a significantly safer, more efficient roadway as a result,” said Senator Sue Serino. “The Hudson Valley was hit hard by the pandemic, but its smart investments in infrastructure like this that will help our community rebuild and grow as we move forward. The community partnerships, the transparent dialogue and the work between the local and state government agencies like the Department of Transportation that helped to make this project a reality should serve as a model for future projects in the state.”
NYS Assemblyman Kevin Byrne said, "After decades of hearing politicians talk about the need for the Pudding Street Overpass, here we are witnessing it finally get done. This is the one of the most significant pubic infrastructure projects that has happened in Putnam Valley in years. I'm extremely proud to have played a role in making it happen, alongside the leadership of our amazing state Senator Sue Serino."
Town of Putnam Valley Supervisor Sam Olivero said, “For over 20 years the residents of the Roaring Brook Lake Community as well as the Town of Putnam Valley have pursued making the Taconic Parkway crossing at Pudding Street safe for our drivers and especially for our school age children. The crossing at Pudding Street was a nightmare and one of the most dangerous parts of the Taconic Parkway. Finally, under the insistence and strong advocacy of Senator Sue Serino; the project took hold. With support of the Town’s Emergency Service Providers, local governmental officials and especially the residents of Putnam Valley; Senator Serino was able to acquire the funding and final Department of Transportation approval on a long needed overpass. For 20 years our community has tried to get our State Representatives to see the need for the overpass. Within Senator Serino’s first term the project was signed, sealed and delivered. Our entire Town is so appreciative of the Senator’s hard work on behalf of our residents. This overpass will finally provide safe travel for our drivers and our most precious resource… our children. Thank you Senator Serino!!”
Dr. Jeremy Luft Superintendent Putnam Valley Schools said, "Thanks to the tireless efforts of elected officials and residents of the Roaring Brook community, this overpass will provide safe passage for over 100 students to and from school each day."
Senator Sue Serino also thanks the community for their persistence in pushing this project and their patience throughout the construction phase. Serino also reminded community members that they can always receive access up-to-date travel information by calling ‘511’, visiting www.511NY.org , or downloading the free 511NY mobile app.
