HYDE PARK, NY – As part of an ongoing initiative to encourage students to learn more about what a career in the trades has to offer, Senator Sue Serino recently joined local industry leaders to host an interactive virtual panel titled “Plan for a Future That Works!”
“Now, more than ever, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear that we need to be doing all we can to encourage our young people to consider a career in the trades,” said Senator Sue Serino. “Most people know I didn’t take the traditional career path, and it’s so important for people to know that there isn’t one singular path to planning your future. A career in the trades often comes with a great paying job and opportunities to grow and learn, and if this is something you are considering, I encourage you to reach out to any of our event speakers and to learn more.”
This virtual event featured presentations from Alexis Maturo from DBS Remodel, Dave Stewart from DS Electric of the Hudson Valley, Larry Holzapfel from Quality Environmental Solutions and Technologies, Inc. and Dustin Folkes from Folkes Home Services. Topics discussed included an introduction of their specific trade and business, an overview of the education and training requirements, and leaders answered questions and gave their advice to students looking to learn more or get involved.
Alexis Maturo, Marketing Director of DBS Remodel said, “We need to continue to bring awareness to the Trades industry and the many career opportunities it has for the youth. With the help & support of Senator Serino, we were able to shed some light about trades jobs for the next generation.”
In April of this year, Senator Sue Serino was scheduled to host a Skilled Trades Fair in partnership with the Wappingers Central School District. The event received a tremendous response from students and the local community, so when the pandemic forced them to postpone the event, they took the event virtual.
