SERINO NAMED ‘2020 GUARDIAN OF SMALL BUSINESS’
October 27, 2020
HYDE PARK, NY – Senator Sue Serino today announced that she has been named a ‘Guardian of Small Business’ by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). Only six State Senators and seven Assemblymembers were awarded this distinct recognition this year.
“Since the first day Senator Serino took office representing Dutchess and Putnam Counties in the State Senate, she has been a consummate champion for the small businesses and local job creators of her district,” said Greg Biryla, NFIB’s New York State Director. “Senator Serino has fought to cap property taxes, cut business and income taxes, and reform senseless regulatory burdens. Perhaps most important and impressive, Sue Serino continues to stand shoulder to shoulder with the local businesses of her community as they confront the unprecedented challenges brought forth by the COVID-19 pandemic, working tirelessly to ensure small businesses are treated with respect, fairness, and given a chance to succeed.”
“As a small business owner myself, this award means so much,” said Senator Sue Serino. “Our small business owners have been among the hardest hit during this pandemic, and I won’t stop working to ensure they have a strong voice fighting for them in the recovery process. The Hudson Valley is home to some of the most unique small businesses in the state—they are the fabric of our community, not only providing the jobs that so many depend on, but providing the character that makes our community so special. With so many of them on the brink, we need to work overtime to ensure they get the resources they need to weather this storm, keep their doors open, and continue playing an active role here in our community.”
This prestigious award recognizes lawmakers who have an “outstanding voting record on small business issues” and have proven to be a strong support for NFIB state policy priorities during this past legislative session. The Guardian Award is the highest honor bestowed by NFIB on New York State legislators.
Founded in 1943, NFIB is the leading small business advocacy association in the state and across the country, with offices in all 50 states and Washington D.C. NFIB is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with a unique mission aimed at promoting and protecting the right of members to own, operate, and grow their businesses.
