WAPPINGERS CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT & SENATOR SERINO TO HELP STUDENTS ‘PLAN FOR A FUTURE THAT WORKS!’

Recognizing the need to engage future generations in the trades, Senator Sue Serino and the Wappingers Central School District are teaming up to host a Skilled Trades Career Fair for young adults in the area to give them a first-hand look at the many opportunities available in our local community. A range of employers and trades representatives will be on-hand at the event to speak with students and parents about a future in the trades and the many opportunities they offer.

Senator Sue Serino said, “Our goal is always to ensure that our young people are prepared for 21st Century careers, and as technology evolves, so do the opportunities that come along with a future in the trades. There is a tremendous need in the Hudson Valley for skilled trades workers, and that means great-paying, stable careers with plenty of room for growth and opportunities for innovation. We want to encourage our young people to think outside of the box when they’re thinking about their futures, and this event will give them a hands-on opportunity to learn more about what a future in the trades could mean for them.”

Wappingers Central School District Superintendent Jose Carrion said, “Here in Wappingers Central School District, we are working to ensure that our students have the tools they need to meet their full potential. This unique initiative will allow our students and their families to engage with the trades and get a better understanding of all they have to offer. We thank Senator Serino for partnering with us on this and working to highlight the great opportunities a career in the trades provides.”

Roy C. Ketcham High School Principal David Seipp, said, "Our goal at Ketcham is to empower our students to pursue their passions and realize their full potential, and this event will give students a first-hand look at some unique options to help them do that as they plan for their future. We are thrilled to be co-hosting this event with Senator Serino, and we hope that our school community will take advantage of the unique opportunity."

Scheduled for Thursday, April 23rd, the free event kicks off at 6:00 p.m. and is open to the public. Students and parents from surrounding schools are also encouraged to attend. No RSVP is required to attend the informational event; however, if you have questions, please contact Senator Sue Serino’s Hyde Park Office at 845-229-0106. 

Members of local trades organizations and businesses who employ members of the trades who may be interested in hosting an informational table at the event should contact Ciara Mulligan in Senator Serino’s office at 845-229-0106 or email serino@nysenate.gov to secure a participation form. While participants cannot sell products or services at the event, it is a great and unique opportunity to connect with local residents. Space for event participants is limited, and tables will be reserved on a first-come-first-serve basis, so those interested in participating are encouraged to RSVP as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, April 3rd.
