September 24, 2020
(Elmont, New York) — Today, Senator Todd Kaminsky and Assemblymember Michaelle Solages announced that they provided a $100,000 grant to the Elmont Union Free School District focused on implementing technology upgrades, including the setup of Cisco Wireless Networking services, that are critical to expanding the District’s WiFi network. As the Elmont UFSD continues its expansion of a program offering every student an iPad for their education, this grant ensures that the District’s network will be able to meet the increased demand on the network connectivity.
Other technology upgrades through this grant, as well as related Smart Schools funding, include the purchase of additional network gear and WiFi access points in each classroom to allow for the expanded iPad connectivity.
“Better connectivity is key to providing the best education we can for our children, especially when remote learning is more important than ever,” says Senator Todd Kaminsky. “This grant funding ensures our students are able to take full advantage of the technology services we are providing them. As the Elmont UFSD expands its iPad program for its students, this makes sure that the District can meet the demands of the growing number of children on the schools’ network.”
We appreciate the advocacy of Senator Kaminsky to secure this important funding for the Elmont Schools," says Kenneth Rosner, Superintendent of the Elmont Union Free School District. "The advanced connectivity options ensure that all students in the District will be able to efficiently connect to speedy WiFi and meet our goals of providing top quality education empowered by the best technology.”
“Ensuring access to the district's broadband network is vital to a quality academic experience for all of our students,” stated Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages. “These funds come at an opportune time as the pandemic places new demands on the school district. With the influx of families now participating in virtual learning, this grant will go towards enhancing the broadband network to improve connectivity as well as expanding the district’s Ipad distribution program.”
