Kaminsky, DiNapoli Announce Return of Nearly $1.7M in Unclaimed Funds To 9th Senate District Residents
December 11, 2020
(Rockville Centre, New York) –– Today, Senator Todd Kaminsky and New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli announced the return of more than $1,695,200 in unclaimed funds to residents of the 9th Senate District.
In July 2020, Kaminsky sent notification letters to his constituents who had unclaimed funds with New York State. As a result of Senator Kaminsky’s notification, the State Comptroller’s Office of Unclaimed Funds (“OUF”) returned $1,695,200 to 4,785 claimants.
Senator Todd Kaminsky said: “With all of the trials and tribulations of 2020, I am glad that we were able to partner with the Comptroller to return unclaimed funds to their rightful owners at a time when they may need it most,” said Senator Todd Kaminsky. “This is a great example of good government making a meaningful impact on peoples’ lives and I’m proud to have played a part in recouping nearly $1.7 million in funds for 4,785 constituents in my district.
New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli said: “As State Comptroller, one of my favorite duties is giving New Yorkers back their lost money through our unclaimed funds program. More than 40 million accounts valued at $16.5 billion are waiting to be claimed by their rightful owners. We return $1.5 million a day. Searching for accounts is easy and free, and can be done online or over the phone. You should check to see if there are any claims in your name as well as friends and relatives, places of worship or any groups, businesses or organizations you are affiliated with. Most online claims are processed in as little as two weeks. I want to thank Senator Kaminsky for helping us spread the message to the people of the 9th Senate District.
Kathy Walsh, resident of Valley Stream, who received Kaminsky’s notification said: “This initiative is great for the community and I appreciate the help from the Senator’s office in helping reclaim funds that I didn’t even know about. I’m very grateful to the Senator’s team for helping me with the application, because every penny counts, especially this year.”
Flozel Smallwood, resident of Valley Stream, who received Kaminsky’s notification said: “I learned of the unclaimed funds through an email blast from Senator Kaminsky and I was shocked at how accurate the process was and that it works! I didn’t have to wait very long to receive the funds that were due to me, maybe a couple of weeks.”
Mari-Anne Case, resident of Baldwin, who received Kaminsky’s notification said: “Throughout the process, we worked with Senator Kaminsky’s office and the experience of applying was very quick and to the point. They were very helpful and I wouldn’t have even known I was owed money at all, if not from the letter I received from the Senator. Very efficient!”
Rosa Coronel, resident of West Hempstead, who received Kaminsky’s notification said: : “The whole process was short and I was able to get my reimbursement, and even better, they gave me the full amount that I claimed. It was very nice of Senator Kaminsky’s office to reach out and to follow up with me to make sure everything went smoothly.”
Dominick Tastani, resident of West Hempstead, who received Kaminsky’s notification said: “I was very pleased with the process. It took about a month for me to get my money.
