Kaminsky & Griffin Announce $860K Smart Schools Aid for Malverne
August 13, 2020
(Malverne, New York) — Today, Senator Todd Kaminsky and Assemblywoman Judy Griffin announced that the State will provide $868,363 in Smart Schools funding for Malverne Public Schools. This investment will bolster security using the latest technology to keep children safe. The Malverne School District leveraged the bond to invest in high-tech security upgrades, including the expansion of their identification card reader system and new high-definition cameras.
“We owe it to our children to invest in their education and ensure they are safe and protected in the classroom,” said Senator Todd Kaminsky. “I was proud to secure more than $860,000 in crucial security funding for Malverne Public Schools. Importantly, the more money we secure from Albany, the less Long Island taxpayers are called on to shoulder the financial burden.”
"Our schools are an important resource for our children and this funding will provide the necessary resources to keep our youth safe by purchasing high-tech security upgrades," said Assemblywoman Judy Griffin. “I am proud to join Senator Kaminsky in securing these vital resources for the Malverne School District and look forward to bringing back more funding from Albany to support our district.”
"We appreciate the efforts of our legislators in their advocacy for funding for the Malverne Schools," says Dr. Lorna Lewis, Superintendent of the Malverne School District. "These funds are well needed and timely to build on our capacity to deliver a safe and secure environment for the opening of schools."
Smart Schools Bond Act funding can be invested by school districts in technology, such as computer servers, SmartBoards, tablets, computers, Wi-Fi and high-speed broadband internet. The grant funding can also be used to purchase security equipment, such as digital surveillance cameras, hardened entrances and exits, lockdown buttons, and other related equipment.
