October 12, 2020
(WEST HEMPSTEAD, New York) — Senator Todd Kaminsky and Assemblywoman Judy Griffin announced that they helped secure $160,000 in Library Construction Aid from the New York State Library and Education Departments for the West Hempstead Public Library. The funding will be utilized to replace inefficient lighting fixtures within the facility with energy efficient LED alternatives.
“The West Hempstead Public Library is a pillar of the community, and I’m pleased that the State has created the opportunity for it to continually improve to serve the public,” said Senator Todd Kaminsky. “This funding provides critical upgrades to the facility that will allow the institution to better provide services that empower us all to learn, grow and expand their minds.”
“Libraries are an essential, vibrant, and supportive resource at the center of our communities,” said Assemblywoman Judy Griffin. “I was happy to help secure this funding so that the West Hempstead Public Library will continue inspiring young minds and supporting and welcoming residents of all ages.”
“The Library has been very fortunate to have received these Construction Aid Grants. This is the third one I have applied for, for energy efficient lighting and now every fixture/light in the library will have been replaced and/or retrofitted to LED,” said Regina Mascia, Director of the West Hempstead Public Library. “I can’t even begin to tell you what a difference it has made in the amount of light that there is now in the library itself. So much better for the library community and staff and the energy savings should finally be seen in our PSEG bills after this final stage.”
