“I applaud the election of Dr. Lester W. Young Jr. as the new Chancellor for the State Board of Regents.  Dr. Young is a groundbreaking choice. He will be the first African American to serve in this position. He has a distinguished career of serving New York students and ensuring that our most vulnerable children have access to essential education services. Dr. Young helped shape the policies that affect New York's schoolchildren and it was his leadership that helped implement the ‘My Brother's Keeper’ initiative. I look forward to working with Dr. Young to build a more equitable educational system, to improve the quality of our state’s public schools, and to guarantee that every New York student receives the top-notch education they deserve."
