CARLE PLACE, NY (April 26, 2021) - Today, State Senator Anna M. Kaplan (D-North Hills) issued the following statement:
“I’m outraged and disgusted by the anti-Semitic hate crime that took place in Port Washington this weekend when John Philip Sousa Elementary School was vandalized with two large swastikas painted on the outside of the building. Hatred and anti-Semitism will never be welcome in our community, and its incumbent on us all to speak out forcefully and unequivocally against it whenever we encounter it.
I’ve been in touch with the Port Washington Police Department, the Nassau County Police Department, and the Nassau County District Attorney’s office to offer my full support in their investigation to find whoever is responsible for this despicable act and hold them accountable to the fullest extent of the law. I urge anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Port Washington Police Department at 516-883-0500, or email tips@pwpd.ny.gov.”
