Senator Palumbo's State of the State response

Anthony H. Palumbo

January 12, 2021

Today, the Governor made his State of the State Address from the War Room—a fitting location to speak to New Yorkers who are in the midst of a battle to regain their health, economic freedoms and restore some sense of normality. The State is facing many hurdles to a better 2021, yet these are not Republican or Democrat obstacles, they are challenges that confront all New Yorkers. As Senator, I will work with the Governor to get New York’s economy open, to provide assistance to help with the recovery of the COVID-19 pandemic and to ensure our local governments and schools continue to receive the support and assistance they need to operate in a pandemic.

What I will not do, is ask hurting Long Islanders to pay more in taxes. The Legislature must do everything in its power to stop new and higher taxes and regulations that will place additional burdens on struggling businesses and families.

The road to recovery will be long, but it cannot be one paid for solely on the backs of Long Island taxpayers.
