One Police Plaza

Dear Commissioner Shea:
I’m writing to you as the State Senator representing P.S. 41, the Greenwich Village School, located at 116 West 11th Street, New York, NY 10011. It has come to my attention that a school crossing guard has not been present at the intersection of West 11th Street and Sixth Avenue during school drop-off and pick-up since school began on September 13, unlike in previous years.
The children who cross Sixth Avenue range from 3-K/pre-K to fifth grade and between 3 and 9 years old, and I’m extremely concerned for their safety in the absence of a school crossing guard. Traffic on Sixth Avenue has been increasing steadily since schools have reopened and urge you to take action to remedy this dangerous situation by restoring crossing guard services at this location as soon as possible.
I appreciate your consideration of my urgent request. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 212-633-8052 or hoylman@nysenate.gov.
Sincerely,
Brad Hoylman
State Senator
27th District - Manhattan
