New City, NY - Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick took immediate action this morning to provide comfort to the over 100 residents of the Evergreen Adult Home in Spring Valley that tragically burned this morning, organizing a clothing and toiletry supply drive for the displaced residents. Just a short while after becoming aware of the tragedy, Senator Reichlin-Melnick began reaching out to the operators of the facility and county officials to see what was needed, and immediately began organizing the supply drive. After Senator Reichlin-Melnick went live on Facebook and Instagram asking the community for donations, Assemblyman Mike Lawler and Assemblyman Kenneth P. Zebrowski reached out to coordinate a larger county-wide clothing and supply drive. The Senator is grateful for their partnership and support in what is truly a team effort to aid the members of our community impacted by this terrible fire.

This was horrendous news to wake up to this morning, and I’m grateful for the rapid response from our firefighters and other first responders who’s immediate action saved dozens of lives. I am also hopeful that the professionals on the scene will find the brave firefighter who is still missing in the rubble,” said Senator Reichlin-Melnick. “I knew from the moment I saw the news this morning that we would need to rally the community to help our neighbors, and I am so thankful for the incredible outpouring of support we have already received from members of the community. Dozens of bags of toiletries and clothing were brought to our office today and we expect to receive many more supplies throughout the week.”

Donations poured in this afternoon to Senator Reichlin-Melnick’s offices in both New City and Ossining, and his team delivered the supplies to facilities around the state where the displaced residents are staying temporarily. More donations of clothing and toiletries are still needed, and anyone who wishes to donate can drop off the supplies to Senator Reichlin-Melnick’s two offices at:
