In an effort to combat COVID-19 cases, Senator Sanders Jr. has been hosting PPE giveaways regularly, beginning with the most impacted neighborhoods in his district.
On Saturday, January 23, 2021, he hosted a double event, one in Richmond Hill outside Fernandez Pharmacy at 123-23 Liberty Avenue, and one in Rosedale at St. Peter's Episcopal Church Pantry at 137-28 244th Street.
Senator Sanders and his staffers, along with volunteers from community organizations, distributed hand sanitizer, face masks, and face shields. At the Richmond Hill location, mobile COVID-19 testing was also available courtesy of Test & Trace Corps I NYC Health + Hospitals, who also co-sponsored the event and contributed some of the supplies.
The event was also co-sponsored by Assembly Member Khaleel Anderson and supported by community partners including: Richmond Hill Economic Development Council (RHEDC), Richmond Hill / South Ozone Park Lions Club, Cottage Home Care, National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. (Laurelton Club), United Neighborhood Civic Association (UNCA), Rosedale Civic Association, India Home, and YWCA.
