November 1, 2021
It was time for tricks and treats as Senator James Sanders Jr. hosted an early voting event on Halloween at the Rockaway YMCA to inspire people to participate in the Democratic process.
While at the site, Senator Sanders visited with all of the voters, poll workers and volunteers and handed out candy.
Nieasha Fullington and her mom Lunetta Cheeseboro won Senator Sanders' best costume contest with their elegant matching 1920s flapper costumes. They received an extra special prize. It was a basket filled with Halloween-themed goodies, decorations, crafting sets and candy.
A very close 2nd place at Senator Sanders' early voting costume contest was Dominick George who gave us all a fright with his excellent Pennywise-inspired evil clown costume.
Senator Sanders lead by example and cast his ballot after which he proudly wore his "I voted early sticker."
"It was a great joy to tie in the fun of Halloween with the importance of voting," Sanders said. "We all had a good time but we also cast our ballots, making future change for the city and state possible. We made our voices heard."
