***STATEMENT*** Senator Sanders Congratulates Kathy Hochul on Becoming the First Woman to Lead New York as Governor
August 24, 2021
State Senator James Sanders Jr. said: “I would like to congratulate Kathy Hochul on becoming the new Governor of our great State of New York. She is our 57th Governor and the first female governor to lead the state, which in itself changes the dynamic in Albany. Our most powerful figures will be women, including state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Attorney General Letitia James. Although Governor Hochul faces many challenges, with COVID-19 cases and unemployment rising, debates over vaccine and mask mandates, and the economy on a downturn, I am confident that she is more than qualified to handle each of these situations boldly and intelligently. I look forward to working with Governor Hochul. She has great qualifications, having worked at all levels of government - Town Board Member, County Clerk, Congresswoman, and Lieutenant Governor. Let’s move ahead, onward and upward, for the betterment of the entirety of our state.
