Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C-Glenville), the Ranking Member of the Senate Education Committee, today honored Karin Skarka, Principal at Chango Elementary School in Malta, upon her retirement with a New York State Senate Proclamation.

Skarka has served as Principal at Chango, a Shenendehowa Central School District elementary school, since 2002. She previously served a decade as a biology teacher.  Skarka also served as a track and field coach and swimming instructor.

During the pandemic, to help encourage students to be healthy and bike to school, Skarka worked with parents and staff to create the Chango Peleton Bike to School Program. To mark Skarka’s retirement, Chango dedicated a new bike rack in Skarka’s name.

“Mrs. Skarka has been a beloved principal and dedicated and caring educator at Chango Elementary School for many years and has helped thousands of children in the Shenendehowa School District in Saratoga County receive a wonderful first-class education. As a former educator, I am proud to honor her years of outstanding public service,” said Senator Jim Tedisco, who prior to being elected to the New York State Legislature was a teacher, guidance counselor, athletic director and coach.
