Tedisco on State Easing Mask Mandate for K-12 Schools

Senator Jim Tedisco

June 4, 2021

“I’ve been contacted by several parents and educators asking for the state mask mandate on our schools to be lifted, some of whom have children with asthma and other lung conditions, and were concerned about having to wear the masks with next week's projected heat wave negatively impacting their breathing and health. Continuing to mandate this would result in their children not being able to go to school and negatively impacting their end-of-the-school-year experience.”

“Lifting this state mandate is consistent with the science and CDC guidance for youth camps and makes sense as vaccination rates continue to increase and cases of the virus significantly decline.”

“Our conference has been calling for reasonable and appropriate policies that actually follow the science. I was proud last week to pass a bill for state parks and forest rangers to be able to carry EpiPens as parks and campgrounds are re-opening, which is a clear indication that we are getting to the point of vanquishing this dastardly virus.”
