Senator Ramos Issues Statement on Passage of S1042A: Reforming New York State's Partial Unemployment Insurance System
January 19, 2021
QUEENS, NY—“Today, the Senate passed S1042A taking the first step to codify an update to New York State’s antiquated Partial Unemployment Insurance system—a long overdue win for working families across our state. My bill changes the way our state calculates eligibility for Partial Unemployment Insurance benefits—determining eligibility based on weekly earnings rather than the number of days worked. These necessary reforms would ensure New Yorkers who are working part time or being called back to work at reduced hours can do so knowing that they will be able to provide for their families no matter how many days and hours of work they are offered each week."
