QUEENS, NY– Following a statement shared earlier today by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Senator Jessica Ramos issued the following statement:
"I’m thrilled to hear that the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation has rejected NRG’s Astoria Fracked Gas Plant. From its inception, this proposal has been unnecessary and irresponsible, and New Yorkers cannot accept efforts to build new natural gas plants that would do nothing for the reliability or sustainability of our power supply. This decision from the DEC is a particular win for the working-class communities of color living and working in Asthma Alley, who have long borne the brunt of environmental injustice for generations. Queens is ready for a Green New Deal, and with this win we have issued a loud and resounding no to new fossil fuel infrastructure."
