SENATOR JOHN W. MANNION CALLS FOR THE UPSTATE FLOOD MITIGATION TASK FORCE TO CONVENE FOLLOWING TOUR OF CROSS LAKE FLOOD DAMAGE
November 4, 2021
CROSS LAKE, NY – Senator John W. Mannion (D-Geddes) today called for the Upstate Flood Mitigation Task Force to immediately convene and begin identifying strategies to mitigate flooding and assist homeowners.
“The Upstate Flood Mitigation Task Force was created in 2017 to develop plans and strategies to mitigate flooding but it did not receive adequate attention or funding from the prior administration leaving the state vulnerable to future flooding events,” said Senator Mannion. “This is an immediate step the state can take to further support efforts to combat and respond to climate change and extreme weather. I look forward to working with Governor Kathy Hochul to move quickly to convene the task force and to fund its statutory obligations to provide grants to local governments and homeowners.”
Senator Mannion called for the Upstate Flood Mitigation Task Force to begin its long overdue work after touring Cross Lake flood damage and meeting with homeowners.
