SYRACUSE, NY – State Senator John W. Mannion today was appointed chairman of the Standing Committee on Disabilities, a newly created senate committee that oversees laws related to people with developmental or physical disabilities, including oversight of the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities, the Justice Center, and laws providing service and assistance for people with disabilities.
“So many New York families know the struggles of having a loved one ‘in the system,’ and the enormous challenges of finding effective and trustworthy care,” said Senator Mannion. “My message to these families is this – I will be your champion. Your issues are my issues and I will never make you feel lost or forgotten. I want to thank Leader Stewart-Cousins for entrusting me with this awesome responsibility. I am eager to work with my colleagues in the senate to pass legislation that improves care, conditions, and lives of this vulnerable population.”
Senator Mannion will also serve on the following committees: Children and Family, Housing, Construction & Community Development, Internet and Technology, Education, Environmental Conservation, and Labor.
