Statement from Senator John Mannion on Resumption of High School Sports
January 22, 2021
GEDDES – Senator John W. Mannion (D-Geddes) today released the following statement on Governor Cuomo’s decision to allow high school sports to resume:
“I’m proud to have been a supporter of the efforts to safely resume high school sports because they are so important to the health and well-being of our students, schools, and communities. I’m incredibly grateful that Governor Cuomo listened to our concerns and acted accordingly.
Safe resumption of practice and competition will require districts to work with county health departments. We must still make sure schools have every resource they need for rapid testing. I am confident that if teams and athletes adhere to the state guidelines and advice of local health officials, we will be successful.
Congratulations to all who passionately advocated for this outcome. Coaches, players, and parents - I heard you loud and clear. Be safe, don’t squander this opportunity, and best of luck!”
