The American Red Cross is once again promoting their Sound the Alarm Campaign by offering to install in-person free smoke detectors in homes that need them after they had to pause operations during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, and State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. wants to help register his constituents for this service.
According to the American Red Cross, home fires claim seven lives every day, and the American Red Cross’ Sound the Alarm Campaign aims to reduce those numbers by installing free smoke alarms into people’s homes.
October 3 through October 9 is National Fire Prevention Week, and is the best time to learn how to protect you and your family from a devastating fire by getting a free smoke alarm installed by the American Red Cross and by creating a family escape plan.
“Home fires are extremely dangerous and can lead to unnecessary deaths,” Addabbo said. “The worst part about these fires that kill seven Americans each day is that many of them are preventable and the deaths can be avoided. I hope to spur my constituents into action to protect themselves and their families from deadly fires by registering to get a free smoke alarm installed if they do not have any, to check their fire alarms periodically, to create a family escape plan, and learn some of the main causes of home fires.”
