Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr.
March 10, 2021
This April State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. is partnering with the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) to bring a free virtual Community Civil Service 101 Information Session where constituents can learn about opportunities to work in City government.
This free virtual event will take place on Tuesday, April 6, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. via Webex.
If you are looking for a job, you can learn about opportunities that the City of New York posts for more than 80 different agencies. The City has over 300,000 employees representing many occupations in over 2,000 titles. During this Information Session, members from DCAS will provide jobseekers with everything they need to know about applying for New York City government jobs and becoming a civil servant.
“Finding a job during these times is even more difficult as we are still dealing with the COVID pandemic and many businesses have closed down for good. However, there are many opportunities — especially in City government — out there for jobseekers,” Addabbo, a member of the Senate Civil Service and Pension Committee, said. “That is why I teamed up with DCAS to bring this Info Session to the community. The experts from DCAS will help educate participants on how to navigate the complexities of finding and applying for government jobs. I hope to see plenty of people take advantage of this great opportunity!”
The session will provide attendees with the following information:
- How to apply to posted job positions and apply for an exam, which can lead to a permanent job;
- Highlight the skills needed to work in City government;
- How to apply for positions using the 55a program that’s available for people with disabilities;
- Provide virtual tours through the job and exam websites;
- How to apply for veteran and financial hardship fee waivers;
- How high school students and current enrolled college students can explore and apply for Internships and Fellowships;
- And more.
“DCAS is proud to work with Senator Addabbo’s office on this occasion in order to promote the City of New York as an employer of choice for diverse populations,” said Silvia Montalban, Chief Citywide Equity and Inclusion Officer with DCAS. “We know the City is facing hard times now but we continue to do outreach in order to build pipelines for access to municipal employment opportunities when they become available. If you are interested in becoming part of the operations that keep this great City running, this information session is for you. DCAS is excited to empower the public with the right information in order to prepare for civil service career opportunities.”
