State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. is partnering with a pair of young community activists this September to help support the Hungry Monk Rescue Truck with a food and feminine products drive.
Addabbo was approached by Jacob Altamirano and his sister Jamie Longo — two community activists from Ridgewood — to see if he would be a partner with them on this drive. Addabbo accepted their request and will open up one of his district offices to be a drop off spot for donations.
“I have worked with both Jacob and Jamie in the past on donation drives and I am proud to do so again on this initiative,” Addabbo said. “I am always impressed with their hard work in the community and their dedication to others, especially at such a young age. The Hungry Monk Rescue Truck is a valued resource for those facing food insecurity in our local communities and touches the lives of everyone it serves, and I am happy to open my doors to help collect food for them.”
Starting Monday, August 30, Addabbo’s Middle Village office — located at 66-85 73rd Place — will be a drop off location for food and feminine product donations. The food donations will go to benefit the Hungry Monk Rescue Truck, while the feminine products will go to women at local food pantries within the community. The drive will run until Friday, October 1.
Food that is needed for the Hungry Monk Rescue Truck includes:
- Pasta and pasta sauce;
- Beans;
- Rice;
- Canned soup;
- Peanut butter and jelly;
- Canned fruit;
- Tuna fish; and
- Baby formula and diapers.
Feminine hygiene products including pads, tampons, panty liners and feminine wipes will be accepted during the drive as well.
“My other food drive events earlier this year were very successful and provided our local food pantries with plenty of food,” Addabbo said. “And it was all due to the generosity of the community. I hope to see the same results with this food drive to benefit the Hungry Monk Rescue Truck so they can better serve the people. I want to thank Jacob and Jamie for their continued support of the community.
