On Wednesday, December 8, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. joined representatives from the American Red Cross to install a free smoke detector at a constituent’s home in Middle Village. This visit was set up through the American Red Cross’s Sound the Alarm Campaign, which installs free smoke detectors in homes across the country. According to the American Red Cross, seven people each day lose their lives to home fires. Through their home visits, like this one, the American Red Cross has installed more than 2.1 million free smoke alarms and prepared more than 2.3 million people for home fires since the Sound the Alarm campaign’s inception in 2014. That has translated into 956,015 households made safer and 1,148 lives saved.
