Keep your kids learning this summer with the Senate 2021 Summer Reading Program
Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr.

With schools soon letting out for summer vacation, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. wants to offer students the opportunity to keep learning through the summer months and participate in the New York State Senate's 2021 Summer Reading Program.
This year’s Summer Reading Program theme is Tails and Tales, and libraries across the state are encouraging kids and teens to explore some new and exciting books this summer.
By continuing their learning throughout the summer, parents can help their children avoid what is commonly known as the “Summer Slide.” The Summer Slide is the loss of skills students gained during the school year while students are not in school for summer recess and it can affect students of every skill level and household income.
“As many of our local libraries are reopening — even if just for to-go services — it is the perfect time for students to check out what exciting options their libraries have to offer,” Addabbo said. “Summer reading is a great way to keep our kids’ learning and get them away from the screens for a little bit. This has been a school year unlike any other due to the pandemic, so I encourage parents to sign their kids up for the 2021 Summer Reading Program to keep their minds growing!”
Parents who fill out the Summer Reading Form on Addabbo’s Senate website with their child’s information, along with three books they read this summer, will get their child a Certificate of Achievement from the Senator. The deadline to submit the Summer Reading Form is September 1, 2021.
To register, visit Addabbo’s website at https://www.nysenate.gov/senators/joseph-p-addabbo-jr and click on the Summer Reading Program banner.
