Griffo announces construction grants for public libraries

New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-I-C-Rome, announced today that several public libraries in his district will receive library construction grant funds. The projects are supported by a $14 million capital fund appropriation in the 2020-21 State Budget for construction and renovation of public libraries and public library systems in New York State.  

Libraries receiving grants in Sen. Griffo’s district include:

·    Clayville Library Association: $4,050 for the installation of French drains on each side of the library building to mitigate current water runoff issues.

·    Dunham Public Library: $14,838 for the creation of a functioning kitchenette and laundry for sanitary reasons in response to COVID-19 and other seasonal viruses.

·    Utica Public Library: $25,443 for Phase II of chimney rehabilitation and skylight assessment procedures on the roof of the library.

·    Western Town Library: $10,834 for the replacement of two split unit air conditions and 1,000-gallon LP tank.

“Public libraries play a critically important role as centers of learning, culture and civic activity and have continued to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of our communities,” Sen. Griffo said. “As such, it is imperative that they be provided with resources to help them make needed capital improvements. These construction grants will help these valued institutions grow and flourish for years to come.”
