Senator Thomas Installs Smoke Alarms in Hempstead Residents’ Homes to Raise Awareness of Fire Safety During Holiday Season
November 30, 2021
(Hempstead, NY) — The American Red Cross of Greater New York and Senator Kevin Thomas (D-Levittown) recently installed free smoke alarms in constituents’ homes in Hempstead to raise awareness and educate residents on the importance of emergency preparedness during the holiday season. The alarms were installed as part of an ongoing partnership between American Red Cross and Senator Thomas to End Home Fires by providing live-saving smoke alarms free-of-charge to Long Island residents.
Since launching the partnership, more than 2,000 free smoke alarms have been installed in homes throughout Long Island. Any members of the community who would like to have free smoke alarms installed in their home should call Senator Thomas’ Office at (516) 739-1700 or visit redcross.org/li.
Senator Kevin Thomas said, “I’m grateful to partner with the American Red Cross to ensure that all of my residents have access to life-saving smoke alarms at absolutely no cost. Smoke alarms save lives, especially during the holiday season, which brings an increased risk for home fires. I encourage everyone to test their smoke alarm and contact the Red Cross if they need one. “
