Statement from Senator Kevin Thomas on Passage of Legislation Repealing Governor's Emergency Powers
March 5, 2021
GARDEN CITY, NY - Senator Kevin Thomas (D-Levittown) issued the following statement today following the passage of legislation by the New York State Senate repealing the temporary emergency powers that were granted to the governor at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Senator Kevin Thomas said, “Today, I joined the New York State Senate in passing legislation to repeal the emergency powers granted to the governor in March 2020. In light of recent revelations about the conduct of the governor and his administration, it is clear that we need to return to a system of balanced oversight and review between the Legislature and the executive branch. The system created through this legislation will ensure transparency and continue to prioritize the health, safety, and recovery of New York State.”
