Senator Mattera Delivers New York State Flag For Stony Brook Residents

Senator Mario R. Mattera (2nd Senate District) recently visited Stony Brook Village Center to deliver a New York State Flag to the community for the flag pole in front of the historic Stony Brook Post Office.  The flag that Senator Mattera delivered was requested by Ward Melville Heritage Organization (WMHO) President Gloria Rocchio, who reached out on behalf of the residents of Stony Brook.

The new flag will fly high above the center below the flag of the United States of America.

“Stony Brook is such a historic community and it was my pleasure to help replace their flag.  I thank Gloria for reaching out to our office to let us play a role.  The residents who live here are proud Americans and New Yorkers and it is my honor to help them continue their tradition of honoring our state and our nation,” stated Senator Mattera.

“We are proud to display the New York State and American flag in Stony Brook Village on our liberty pole, originally erected in the 1800s by Captain Jonas Smith, and we thank Senator Mattera for helping us make sure New York State is represented.  When we realized that the flag needed to be replaced, we knew we could count on Senator Mattera for his help.  Now, all of our residents and visitors can take part in honoring both of the flags that represent us,” added President Rocchio.
