ALBANY, NY – Governor Kathy Hochul has signed into law legislation (S.4074/A.1665) sponsored by Senator Michelle Hinchey (SD-46) and Assemblyman Kevin Cahill (AD-103) to name the portion of State Route 28 beginning at the Kingston Traffic Circle in Ulster County and continuing West to the Town of Ulster municipal line the Ulster County Korean War Veterans' Memorial Highway. The designation has been widely supported by community members as a way of commemorating the service and sacrifice of Korean War Veterans and their families.
“The Korean War is often referred to as ‘the Forgotten War,’ but it is incumbent upon us to honor the courage of those veterans and ensure that their selfless service is forever remembered,” said Senator Michelle Hinchey. “It was my privilege to partner with Assemblyman Cahill to create this special designation on Route 28 in Ulster County, which will serve as an everyday reminder of our Korean War veterans and the immeasurable sacrifices they have made on behalf of our country.”
Assemblyman Kevin A. Cahill said, “Through this historical recognition we are enshrining the service and sacrifice of our brothers, fathers, and neighbors into the most contemplative and picturesque road in the State. As millions of families travel through the Catskills to enjoy our natural wonders, they will be granted the opportunity to reflect on this period in our history. I thank Governor Hochul for joining Senator Hinchey, Ulster County, and me in remembering those who served.”
