COEYMANS, NY (May 5, 2021) – Today, State Senator Michelle Hinchey (SD-46) issued the following statement:

The health and well-being of our communities should always come first. Our office has been working closely with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to address LaFarge’s clean air permit renewal and are proud today that the ability to burn tires has been removed from their current and ongoing operating permit. As we move towards meeting the goals of the CLCPA, we must bring our businesses along with us. LaFarge is an important part of our Capital Region economy, but tire-derived fuel is not the way forward. Today’s announcement is a win for the right to breath clean air for all New Yorkers and I thank DEC for working with us and exercising their regulatory authority. We will continue to work with all stakeholders to make sure the transition to a renewable energy economy includes everyone."
