ALBANY, NY – Senator Mike Martucci (R, C, I – New Hampton) issued the following statement in response to the Governor’s annual State of the State Address:
“We are living in unprecedented times and that calls for strong leadership. Today’s message included policy proposals I support, such as mobile sports betting, greater access to telemedicine, and providing our nurses with greater access to SUNY and CUNY schools. These are common sense, bipartisan ideas that I look forward to working on with the Governor. However, one thing must be made crystal clear — New York does not have a revenue problem, New York has a spending problem. Broad-based tax increases should be off the table completely, and additional ideas to raise revenue should not be a substitute for making the tough choices needed to address our multi-billion-dollar deficit.
“Budgets are about priorities, and in this budget, I will work to protect our seniors, fully fund our schools, and defend the most vulnerable among us from painful cuts. I will also fight to ensure we cut wasteful spending like the Hollywood tax credit and invest that money directly in our own communities instead. I ran for State Senate with the goal of putting our families first and that is precisely what I plan to do as we move through the budget process.”
Mike Martucci is serving his first term as the Senator for the 42nd NYS Senate District which comprises all of Sullivan County and parts of Orange, Ulster and Delaware counties. He is the ranking member of the Senate Committees on Developmental Disabilities and Small Business, Commerce and Economic Development. Mike is a small businessman who employed hundreds of people locally at his former company, Quality Bus Service, which was responsible for safely transporting thousands of school children each day in and near the 42nd senate district. Mike and his wife Erin own a family-farm in the Town of Westtown and established a family foundation to support local women and children in need, educational opportunities, job creation, and agriculture initiatives. Mike and Erin have three children and live in the Town of Wawayanda.
