Senator Helming Statement on Farm Labor Wage Board Delaying Decision on Overtime Threshold
January 4, 2021
-
ISSUE:
- Agriculture
“On December 31, the Farm Labor Wage Board made the right decision for New York’s farmers and farmworkers by recommending to delay consideration of lowering the overtime threshold until at least November 2021.
“This result is what we called for – more time to collect data and make an informed decision. It is due in large part to the tireless efforts and advocacy of our hardworking farmers and employees, our county farm bureaus, the New York Farm Bureau and other organizations, and our collective agricultural community.
“We must do more to reduce the burdens on our family farms, and protect and grow our agricultural economy. As State Senator and member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, I will continue to stand with our farmers and farmworkers on this and other important issues.”
