Senator Helming Statement in Support of NYSCOPBA
August 20, 2021
-
ISSUE:
- NYSCOPBA
- Correction Officers
“I am sickened by the increased violence occurring inside our correctional facilities, and especially by the horrific injuries sustained by our Correction Officers. Our Correction Officers have one of the toughest jobs in law enforcement and we must do everything possible to keep them safe. I urge the state to fill budgeted staff positions that remain vacant. With the staffing issues, facility closures, and policies like HALT, this is a very dangerous situation for Correction Officers, staff and incarcerated individuals. The state must take immediate action to protect and support our hardworking COs and employees.”
