Ritchie: Nearly 370 Pounds of Medications Disposed of at "Drive-Thru Drug Take Back"

Nearly 370 pounds of unwanted and expired medications were disposed of Wednesday at State Senator Patty Ritchie’s “Drive-Thru Drug Take Back Event,” held at the Watertown Municipal Arena parking lot. The event was made possible with assistance from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Alliance for Better Communities.

“Far too often, we see the damage done when medications are disposed of improperly or even worse, end up in the wrong hands,” said Senator Patty Ritchie. “I would like to thank the hundreds of people who took the time to clean out their medicine cabinets and safely dispose of the drugs they no longer need in a safe and responsible way. I’d also like to thank the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the Alliance for Better Communities for their assistance in hosting this important event.”

In addition to Wednesday’s event, Senator Ritchie will also host a “Drive-Thru Drug Take Back” on October 21st in Ogdensburg. The event, which is being made possible with assistance from the City of Ogdensburg Police Department, will run from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center Parking Lot (141 West River Street).
