Oberacker, Lemondes Honor Sherburne-Earlville Students

SHERBURNE, 06/04/21 -- State Senator Peter Oberacker (R/C – Schenevus) and Assemblyman John Lemondes (R/C/I – Lafayette) recently presented students on the Sherburne-Earlville Central School Odyssey of the Mind team with a special New York State Legislative Resolution.
Senator Oberacker said, “The talented Sherburne-Earlville students and their coaches have persevered through difficult circumstances and should be extremely proud of their accomplishments – and I know great victories await. Their dedication has paid off and I look forward to rooting for them as they take on the world.”
Assemblyman Lemondes said, “The Sherburne-Earlville team has demonstrated great ingenuity and they are true role-models for other students. I know they will be exemplary representatives of New York State at the upcoming World Finals.”
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program in which students from kindergarten through college learn how to think divergently by working as a team to solve an open-ended problem.
The Sherburne-Earlville student team – Jennifer Adsit, Lillie Ashton, Maleah Britton, Anna Fern, Lily French, Justiss Kovack, and Peter Peschel – captured first place in the New York State competition and will travel to Orlando, Florida to compete in the World Finals June 11-12. The team is coached by teacher Heidi Johnson.
Senator Oberacker and Assemblyman Lemondes sponsored resolution J871/K275 that was adopted at the State Capitol in May. The resolution reads in part:
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the members of the Sherburne-Earlville Central School District Division 3 Odyssey of the Mind Team upon the occasion of winning first place in New York State for their outstanding solution to Problem 1; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by their coach, teachers, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Educational competition instills the values of teamwork and accomplishment, and these outstanding students have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate the members of the Sherburne-Earlville Central School District Division 3 Odyssey of the Mind Team upon the occasion of winning first place in New York State for their outstanding solution to Problem 1.
