ALBANY, 03/15/21 -- State Senator Peter Oberacker (R/C – Schenevus) today voted “no” on the senate’s budget resolution for the 2021-22 fiscal year.
“People are leaving our state at a record pace and the senate one-house budget will drive even more out. Tax hikes coupled with unsustainable spending increases are a deadly combination that will further cement New York as one of the most expensive places to live, raise a family, and do business.
“The senate resolution does restore funding cut by the governor to aid key agriculture programs, boost education dollars, and help with some upstate infrastructure improvements – all positive steps. However, the overall level of spending is alarming and irresponsible.
“Our budget deficit was massive prior to the COVID pandemic and this past year has taken a deep toll across the board. To reclaim the title of the Empire State, we need a responsible state budget that addresses current needs while cultivating future opportunities. There is a great deal of work ahead to reach those standards.”
