Today, Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt applauded the coordination between his office, City of North Tonawanda Council President Bob Pecoraro, Niagara County Legislator Jesse Gooch, and CSX Transportation to address the intersection of Niagara Falls Blvd. and Shawnee Rd.
In late August, constituents of Sen. Ortt reached out to his office to relay their concerns regarding deteriorating CSX rail tracks and the potential for a significant accident should no action be taken. Sen. Ortt and his staff coordinated efforts with Council President Bob Pecoraro and Legislator Jesse Gooch and relayed residents’ fears to CSX Transportation.
After communicating these concerns, information was forwarded to the senator’s office in early September that the issue would be addressed and the proper repairs to the rail tracks would be made.
“We heard from several constituents, some of who were extremely concerned with the potential of damage to their vehicles, or worse, a major accident due to the worsening of the rail tracks at the Niagara Falls Blvd. and Shawnee Rd. intersection,” said Sen. Ortt. “It is paramount that private companies remain vigilant and aware of local concerns when their structures are negatively impacting our community. This is a great example of how state, local, and private entities can work together and be responsive to the specific concerns of a community. I thank CSX Transportation for working with us to take action before anyone was seriously injured, and I look forward to our continued work on any issues that may arise in the future.”
Roadwork is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
