SENATOR SEAN RYAN JOINS PRESERVATION BUFFALO NIAGARA TO UNVEIL DESIGN FOR NEW ELMWOOD VILLAGE PLAYGROUND
BUFFALO – Today, July 10, 2021, New York State Senator Sean Ryan joined representatives from Preservation Buffalo Niagara at a pop-up community event to unveil the design of a new playground in Buffalo’s Elmwood Village.
The playground’s construction will be funded primarily by a $100,000 state grant secured by Senator Ryan. The project was initially announced in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic put plans on hold.
The playground will be built at Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church, becoming the only playground within a half-mile radius. Plans for the playground, designed by KOMPAN Playgrounds, include an obstacle course, an elevated playhouse with a slide and an accessible staircase, and a number of ground level activities for younger children. All of the playground equipment is designed to improve physical, cognitive, creative, and social development, and will sit on a colorful rubber surface that features several activities for imaginative play.
The design was unveiled at a community event at the future site of the playground. The event featured several activities for families to enjoy, including visits from The Buffalo Zoo ambassador animals and the Buffalo & Erie County Library bookmobile.
Senator Sean Ryan said, “This playground will be a great space for kids of all ages to have fun and get some exercise, and we expect it to become a popular gathering place for families in Elmwood Village. As we emerge from the pandemic and life begins to return to normal, I’m excited to see this project moving forward once again. I can’t wait to see the finished product.”
