HYDE PARK, NY - In a virtual ceremony this week, Senator Sue Serino brought together area educators who were nominated by their community as an ‘A+ Teacher’ and recognized them for their efforts in the classroom, especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. During the event, Senator Serino thanked the educators for commitment to their students during such a trying time, and read aloud the testimonials from those who nominated them for the unique award, many of which came from current students and their families.

“Over the past year teachers were asked to step up in a big way to adapt to the ongoing challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, and they did so without missing a beat,” said Senator Sue Serino. “While reading through the nominations received, I was blown away by the lengths that the teachers in our community continue to go to connect with their students and promote their success, and it’s clear that they are making a huge difference in their students' lives. I’m honored to be able to recognize these educators as ‘A+ Teachers’ and I cannot thank them enough for all of the work they do both inside and outside of the classroom.”

Senator Serino invited the community to nominate local educators for ‘Teacher Appreciation Week’ who they felt kept their class on track, found new ways to be creative and engaging in the days of remote and hybrid learning, and exemplified what it means to be an ‘A+ Teacher.’ This initiative received over fifty nominations from the 41st Senate District.
