ALBANY, NY – After a flurry of last minute Gubernatorial nominations were brought before the State Senate for confirmation in the waning days of the 2021 Legislative Session, Senator Sue Serino released the following statement:
“Why would you give a Governor who you want to see resign the privilege of nominating anyone for these critically important positions? It truly defies logic.
Despite the Governor being under multiple investigations for everything from withholding data related to COVID-19 nursing home deaths, to sexual harassment, to giving preferential treatment to family and supporters during the pandemic, and more, it is ‘business as usual’ here in Albany where the Supermajority refuses to take meaningful action to hold him accountable for any of it.
I could not, in good conscience, support nominations brought forth by this Governor at this time. This is especially true of the two nominees to the New York State Court of Appeals, who would serve on the jury of his potential impeachment trial. New Yorkers deserve better, and I urge my colleagues across the aisle to take real action to bring about the answers and accountability New Yorkers deserve.”
This week alone, the Senate approved nearly 150 nominations put forth by the Governor.
