Hyde Park, NY—Senator Sue Serino released the following statement in response to the Governor’s imposition of a statewide mask mandate:
"When Governor Hochul took office, she promised to do things differently, govern by listening, and follow the science, yet once again our businesses are being blindsided by yet another mandate, being left with unanswered questions, and being asked to police the behavior of their customers or face arbitrary fines, just as they were time and again under former Governor Cuomo.
Our small businesses are just starting to get back on their feet, and this mandate will be detrimental to all those who were looking toward the holiday season to help keep their doors open. Instead of using local businesses to strong-arm New Yorkers, the state should be investing in resources that protect public health without crippling local economies, like expanding access to COVID-19 testing.
I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that the voices of those impacted by these mandates are truly heard and to restore local control."
