FISHKILL, NY - Senator Sue Serino, the HYATT House Fishkill and the Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross recently teamed up to host a local blood drive aimed at addressing the severe blood shortage and to offer community members a safe and convenient way to donate.
“Blood donation supplies are at dangerously low levels, and I can’t thank our neighbors who took the time to donate blood and to potentially help save lives in our community,” said Senator Sue Serino. “With the holiday season upon us, this was a great opportunity to give back and to make a difference in the lives of someone in need. The average blood donation can save up to three lives, so if you were unable to attend our recent event, I encourage you to sign-up at another blood drive throughout the local area.”
In total, 37 units of blood were collected at the December drive, exceeding the event goal of 35 units, and potentially impacting 111 lives.
Individuals interested in donating blood can find a full list of upcoming Red Cross Blood Drives in their area by clicking here. There is no current deferral for those who recently received the COVID-19 vaccine and the Red Cross is strictly adhering to all health and safety protocols set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention;
