Kaminsky Reappointed Chair of Senate Environmental Conservation Committee

(Albany, New York) — Today, Senator Todd Kaminsky announced that he was reappointed as Chair of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee for the 2021-2022 Legislative Session by Majority Leader Andrea-Stewart Cousins. Kaminsky chaired the Committee in the 2019-2020 Legislative Session.

“I am grateful that Leader Stewart-Cousins reappointed me to chair the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, and am excited to further foster New York’s continued leadership in tackling threats to our communities and the planet at-large,” said Senator Todd Kaminsky. “I look forward to the continued opportunity to protect Long Island's natural resources and fight climate change — for our generation and those to come.”

The Senate Environmental Conservation Committee has broad jurisdiction over a wide range of policy issues concerning the environment — from protecting wildlife to fostering sustainable solutions to tackling climate change. In addition to its fiscal and legislative duties, the Committee is also responsible for conducting oversight of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, among other state agencies.

Kaminsky has been a leader on protecting the environment, and authored New York’s nation-leading climate change law — the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act — to transition the state to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Kaminsky also passed legislation to ban offshore drilling, ensure illegal dumpers are held accountable and prohibit plastic bags, in addition to securing record investments in clean water on Long Island and environmental projects for New Yorkers.
