(Albany, New York) — Today, Senator Todd Kaminsky advocated for improvements to the Lynbrook Long Island Rail Road (“LIRR”) station’s escalators, as well as the lighting at the East Rockaway and Centre Avenue train stations, at a hearing before the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (“MTA”).
“Hardworking Long Islanders deserve a safe, affordable and dependable riding experience to keep our region running — and that begins and ends at their local train station,” said Senator Todd Kaminsky, a member of the Senate Transportation Committee. “I urged the MTA to pursue these crucial capital improvements at our community’s LIRR hubs, which will go a long way in fostering a sane and dignified commute.”
Following Senator Kaminsky’s testimony, the MTA will request federal funding for capital improvements to these three local stations, including escalator replacements at the Lynbrook LIRR station, as well as upgraded LED lighting at the Centre Avenue and East Rockaway stations.
In 2019, Kaminsky secured $17.9 in upgrades to the Lynbrook LIRR station, which were used to renovate platforms, construct new canopies and waiting rooms, install security cameras and set up free Wi-Fi access, as well as to implement concrete viaduct repairs and other structural support work.
