CARLE PLACE, NY (July 22, 2022) -- In the latest example of a right-wing extremist group on Long Island seeking to terrorize local community members with a vile message of hate, a group calling itself the "Goyim Defense League" has disseminated shockingly antisemitic, transphobic, and hate-filled flyers throughout the communities of Rockville Centre and Oceanside in Nassau County, NY. The incident comes just two months after the racist, neo-fascist 'Proud Boys' paraded through the same community, in an incident Senator Anna M. Kaplan (D-North Hills) decried as "nothing more than a modern-day Klan march happening in our community."
Senator Anna M. Kaplan said "Under no circumstances can we remain silent in the face of the vile filth being disseminated by extremist groups seeking to poison our community with their repulsive rhetoric. The antisemitic trash being spread around Rockville Centre and Oceanside this week is just the latest in a long string of recent incidents impacting our community that are driven by antisemitism and hate, and we all need to stand together and send a strong message that we will never accept these groups or their shameful, un-American beliefs in our community."
The flyers disseminated throughout Rockville Centre this week include the headlines "LETS GO BRANDON" with the subhead "EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION IS JEWISH, and FACTS DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS" with a row of photographs of Jewish members of the Biden administration, along with their names, titles, and an Israeli flag. Two of the individuals are marked TRANSGENDER in red writing.
Senator Kaplan continued "the targeting of public servants for their faith, their beliefs, and their LGBTQ+ identity is a tactic we've seen employed around the country to terrorize and intimidate officials since the beginning of the Trump era, something recently brought into sharp focus during the January 6th hearings. This tactic doesn't just stop good people from entering public service, it puts all who answer the call to serve in grave danger, and in far too many cases it results in acts of political violence. As Americans, we need to reject these tactics with every ounce of courage we have. This is not who we are."
The second side of the flyer includes the headline "THE PROTOCOLS OF THE LEARNED ELDERS OF ZION" with the subhead "THE JEW'S PLAN FOR WORLD DOMINATION." The laundry list that follows is a catalogue of antisemitic tropes that have for centuries been used to demonize, stigmatize, and oppress Jewish people the world over.
Senator Kaplan concluded "we all deserve to live in a community free from hatred and bias, and I'm extremely grateful for the dedicated efforts of the Nassau County Police and all local law enforcement officers who show up every day to keep our community safe. I appreciate their hard work every day, and especially their efforts to investigate this hate incident. I urge any Nassau resident who may have information about this incident to contact the NCPD First Squad at 516-573-6152, or if you wish to remain anonymous, you can submit a tip to Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS (8477)."
