Kaplan (D-North Hills) and her team participated in the LGBT Network’s National Coming Out Day #WearTheRibbon campaign by wearing rainbow ribbons and trans flag ribbons to come out in support of safer spaces for LGBTQ people on Long Island. The annual National Coming Out Day Campaign is a one-day campaign that engages communities to take a stand against the discrimination, violence, harassment, and bullying of LGBTQ people by coming out in support of safer spaces where they live, learn, work, play, and pray.
Senator Anna M. Kaplan said “At a time when craven politicians and extremists are targeting LGBTQ people and cynically using trans youth as political pawns, it’s more important than ever that we as allies stand up and send a message that we love and support our LGBTQ friends and family. I’m proud to show my support for the LGBTQ community not just on National Coming Out Day, but every single day of the year.”
